The Orange County Wine Society invites you to volunteer for the annual OC Fair Homewine Competition being held at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa.

As one of the largest and most prestigious amateur competitions in California, this event has played an important part in the development and support of amateur winemakers in California since 1977. This judging recognizes non-professional winemakers through awards given to their outstanding wines. The OC Fair competition is unique in that written evaluations and comments made during the judging are returned to the winemaker. This invaluable feedback from wine experts help them to improve their wines and understand more about the winemaking process. Last year, 596 wines were entered by 180 winemakers.

The success of the Home Wine Competition depends heavily on the volunteers from the entire Orange County Wine Society. We are soliciting your help. Approximately 100 volunteers are needed to serve wine to the judges and perform other support functions.

We need personnel to fill the following functions:

  • Steward to serve wine to the judges
  • Spotter on the floor with the judges
  • Data entry personnel
  • Judge liaisons to pick up the completed judging forms
  • Food service to help serve lunch and clean up
  • Registration desk from 7am to 9am (you will also be assigned a second function)

Please be sure to indicate your preferred assignment on the sign-up form and please submit one form per person. If you want to work with a spouse or other partner indicate this under “Comments”.

COMPETITION DAY is June 8th.  Please arrive by 8:00am for breakfast. A brief meeting of the stewards to review all procedures will be held at 8:30 a.m.  The Competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp and usually ends about 1:00 p.m. Breakfast will be served prior to and lunch will be served after the competition, both catered by the Cooks Caucus.  Also silver and gold award-winning wines will be available for tasting with lunch.
